White County Health Department

Emergency Preparedness

  • White County Medical Reserve Corps – The WC Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) was founded in 2007 and is made up of individuals with medical backgrounds and non-medical backgrounds.  There approximately 100 volunteers listed for White County.  These individuals assist the Health Department in preparing for a public health event through participation in exercises, training, flu clinics, and real public health emergencies.  The Health Department is currently offering the volunteers or those who would like to volunteer free first aid kits upon completion of specific training courses.  Call the Health Department at 574-583-8254 for specific information.
  • Bioterrorism – At the quarterly Health Board meeting held on January 23, 2012, the Board voted to provide the White County Emergency Management Agency with $500.00 to be used for the local Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT).  The monies will be used to help train volunteers and to recruit new volunteers for this organization.  CERT and MRC will be working together to promote community service and to train volunteers in the event of any type of county emergency. The monies will come from the Bioterrorism fund in the Health Department.
  • White County Preparedness Grant from ISDH – The White County Health Department has received a Grant from CDC through the ISDH for a continuation of efforts to prepare for a public health emergency.  This year the efforts will focus on enhancing 3 health department capabilities:  Community Preparedness;  Information Sharing; and Medical Countermeasure Dispensing.  This effort is coordinated by the Health Department Emergency  Coordinator, Ed Gutwein.
